Losing Weight with Celery

Dietarians from all over the world state that celery is worth adding to daily ration if you want to lose weight. Celery is a low-calorie vegetable, 100 g of this plant contains only 14 calories. Thus, celery diet can help you to lose up to 7 kilos in two weeks. The basis of this diet is a celery soup with vegetables, lean meat and fruits.

The recipe of celery soup is rather simple. You would need the following ingredients:

  • 500 g of celery;
  • 300 g of cabbage;
  • 2-3 carrots;
  • 2-3 medium-sized onions;
  • 2-3 small sweet peppers;
  • 2-3 middle-sized tomatoes;
  • dill/parsley;
  • spices to taste (no salt).

All you have to do is to chop the vegetables, to put it into the deep stewing pan and boil in 3 liters of water for about 15 minutes. Now, when you know how to prepare celery soup, you should keep the following celery diet:

  • 1st day: celery soup and fruits, except bananas;
  • 2nd day: celery soup and raw vegetables;
  • 3d day: celery soup, raw vegetables and jacket potatoes for dinner;
  • 4th day: soup, three bananas and a 1 liter of kefir;
  • 5th day: soup, 200 g of dietary meat (beef, chicken or fish), 1 kilo of tomatoes, and about 2 liters of liquid;
  • 6th day: soup, vegetables and 300-400 g of boiled lean beef or chicken;
  • 7th day: celery soup, vegetables and boiled brown rice.

Don't forget that it is a 14 days' diet, so you have to repeat this menu twice. The diet is rather strict: no desserts or alcohol is allowed, but you can drink sugar-free tea and coffee. The amount of celery soup you take every day is unlimited.

You should realize that it's not easy to keep this diet, especially if you don't like celery. As an alternative to celery soup diet, you may choose celery salad diet. You can lose 2 kilos a week eating celery salad every evening. Ingredients of the salad are celery (preferably roots), carrot and turnip. Grate these vegetables and dress the salad with lemon juice and oil.

The advantage of celery diets is not only in weight loss, but in numerous health benefits. Every part of celery (leaves, stem and root) is useful. It is rich in Vitamin C, which supports immune system, contains fibre and essential for our organism oils and minerals such as Folacin and Potassium. Celery’s active compound is Pthalides, it regulates blood pressure and prevents its reducing. Celery is also used for treatment of nervous disorders caused by overworking. There is no need to speak about useful properties of the other vegetables included in celery soup and salad.

Health benefits of celery juice are also worth mentioning. To prevent obesity, you may take 2 teaspoons of celery juice 30 minutes before meals, three times a day. If you follow dietary cooking, you should add celery to meat courses, as it helps to digest meat by stimulating secretion of gastric juice.
